What Is the Mountaineer Blend?
The Mountaineer Blend is a medium roast blend designed for balance. Rather than leaning all the way into brightness or all the way into boldness, it finds the middle ground — the kind of coffee that works equally well as a pour-over, through an automatic drip machine, or pulled as a shot of espresso.
Blending allows us to combine coffees that complement each other: one origin might bring sweetness and body, another might contribute clarity and structure. The goal with Mountaineer was a cup that feels complete on its own, without needing cream or sugar (though it plays nicely with both).
Tasting Notes
Expect a warm, rounded profile with notes of milk chocolate, toasted hazelnut, and a hint of dried fruit in the finish. There's a natural sweetness in the body that makes it easy to drink, and a clean, smooth finish that doesn't linger with bitterness.
Brewed as a pour-over or drip: you'll notice a bit more of the fruity brightness. As espresso or in a latte: the chocolate and nut notes deepen and round out beautifully.
How to Brew It
The Mountaineer Blend is one of the most versatile coffees in our lineup. Here's how it performs across different methods:
- Drip / Auto-drip: Use a medium grind, 1:15 ratio. Clean, sweet, and consistent every time.
- Pour-over: Medium-fine grind, water at 200°F. A 3-minute brew brings out the brighter fruit notes. (Read our full pour-over guide.)
- Espresso: Medium-fine to fine grind, 1:2 ratio, ~28–30 second pull. Rich and chocolatey with a lasting sweetness.
- French press: Coarse grind, 4-minute steep. Full-bodied and rich.
